Sacrifice of Isaac

In obedience to God, Abraham offered his only son, Isaac, on Mount Moriah. God intervened just as he lifted the knife to slay him. He provided a ram caught in the bushes for the sacrifice. "Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness for sin" (Hebrews 9:22). It is a vivid picture of substitutionary atonement pointing forward to the shed blood of The Lamb of God on Golgatha (Mount Moriah). Abraham and Isaac are both covered under the wings of the rescuing God.
